If you often neglect your feet, then it’s no doubt that you have started reaping the consequences. Soon enough, your feet will be covered in calluses, dead, flaky skin and cracks on the heels that make even taking a few steps a total nightmare.
The great news is that more and more people are moving personal foot care and treatments right in the comfort of their living room. After unwinding with your very own foot spa and massager, it’s time to really get in there and file things down a notch. Here’s how the JML Ped Egg Foot File worked out.

What are you buying?
Back in 2009, the JML Pedi Egg Foot File offered a revolutionary home pedicure treatment that promised a newer and faster way to make your feet feel smoother.
By combining an egg-shaped ergonomic design that fits snugly in your hand with 135 precision micro files, the Ped Egg quickly removes all calluses, hard, flaky or dead skin on your feet. Although it is a super compact, convenient and affordable solution for personal foot care, there were some flaws that left plenty to be desired.
First off, if you have extremely hard and crusty feet and wish to file them thoroughly, you may find the Ped Egg a tad disappointing. Sure, it works great at first when it is brand new out of the box. But after a while, the precision files get really blunt and useless, unable to sand down even soft dead skin.
One thing about foot problems like cracked heels and calluses is that they always recur after a while. This means that soon enough, you might be making a trip to the store to buy another pedicure treatment.
The ergonomic shape works in two ways. One is by making the product fit perfectly in your hand. The other purpose is to form a shape that traps shavings and flakes of skin inside it so you do not make a mess. Although not quite as efficient, it seemed to do its job. Just try not to tip the Ped Egg too much otherwise you’ll make a mess on the floor.
Another thing I noticed was that with time, the metal file in the Ped Egg tends to bend somewhat. If your pedicure file becomes rusty, damaged or bent, it could cause some injuries to your feet.
How easy is it to use?
Even with its many drawbacks, the Ped Egg is very simplistic in design, making it very easy to use. While the packaging and product designers could have put a little more effort into it, it is a very straightforward product that does not actually require any instructions to use. All you have to do is unpackage it, place it in your palm and begin sanding away at dead skin or calluses on your feet.
The Ped Egg also acts as a collection compartment which if used correctly and carefully should leave your home mess-free. However, it is super tough and unrealistic to get all the areas of the heel and sole without actually tipping the product. You might want to use it outside or lay some protective material to save yourself the trouble of vacuuming.
As for the 135 precision micro files, they work relatively great and should last longer if you have softer feet and if you supplement the treatment with the included buffer pads.
What accessories are included?
Upon purchasing and unpacking the product, you should find the following items in the box:
- 1 JML Ped Egg Foot File
- 2 coloured emery buffing and finishing pads
Most people prefer to include additional products. To complement my purchase, I ordered the 70g Heel Balm and a pack of deep moisturising socks to help my hooves look like feet again.
JML Ped Egg key features
Pros
- Ergonomic design that fits snugly in your hand.
- Easy to use and customer friendly.
Cons
- Precision micro foot file tends to become blunt quicker than other types
- Collection compartment is not as effective as it says
- The Ped Egg is made out of very low-quality components that won’t last
Anything else you should know?
Like any other personal hygiene product, the Ped Egg should not be used or shared by more than one person. This is very unhealthy and could lead to spreading fungal infections.
At the same time, if your feet are not callused, cracked or crusty, DO NOT use the product since you could end up damaging your already perfect feet.
Conclusion
We all dream of super-soft feet that are very irresistible to the touch and won’t rip your socks off to shreds. Sadly, you won’t be achieving caressably smooth skin with this product, at least not for long anyway. If you are looking for something cheap and short term; then this right here is the product for you. However, if your feet look like a crime scene, the Ped Egg might not really rise to the occasion every time.
The good news is that there are much more robust, practical, durable and extremely thorough home electric foot files on the market. Don’t be afraid to experiment and test out a few to find what suits you best.
